Organizing a Career Development Plan
The first step in creating a career development plan should be to determine personal interests. Thinking about interests in the context of career development can open up a whole new world of possibilities in helping job seekers find a satisfying career.
Oftentimes, during the first step of a career development program, people seek the benefits of a professional’s career development counseling advice. Use Workforce3 One’s integrated webspace to search for and download workforce development products and tools, and locate over 3,500 One-Stop Career Centers where reputable career counselors and career coaches are waiting to help!
The next step in a career development plan is to make a list of the skills a person has. Career development is an ongoing process – this list should contain all skills that a person can identify, including those that are self-taught and those gained through part-time or full-time employment. Remember, even if a person as not been employed before, he/she may have some skills which will help in the career development process!
Next, evaluate the skills list and interests list. Similar entries on the skills list and the interests list would indicate areas that should strongly consider for career development purposes.
Workforce3 One offers career development information to help job seekers find out about the types of careers available. Good information is important so that job seekers can decide if the career development path they have chosen or are considering really meets expectations.
Once a job seeker has determined what career development path to follow, he or she should list the things needed to prepare for that career. What types of experience is needed to successfully navigate the career development program? Is special training required? What schools or training providers offer the kind of training needed?
By nurturing a career development plan, job seekers can focus on what they want to do and how to get there.
